In the Power Poll Jackson survey for February 2022, we asked questions about the ongoing saga around garbage collection in Jackson, water billing problems since the Siemens settlement and the Raymond jail's troubles. Here's what you had to say.

We asked: "Once again, the Jackson City Council has voted down a garbage collection contract with Richard's Disposal. The Mayor responded by declaring another emergency. Who do you feel is at fault?" Nearly 60% of you said that the Mayor is at fault, while only 10% blame the City Council. It's a complex issue, though, and about 30% of you said you're unsure who is at fault.

Many of us in Jackson see water meter contractors out replacing meters for the second time in the past decade. We asked if you've had billing issues in the past 18 months. 10% of you said your bills are often too high, while a little over 30% said they've been inconsistent. 38% said you hadn't had problems.

Finally, we asked this: "Judge Carlton Reeves has declared Hinds County in civil contempt over conditions at the Raymond jail facility. Which do you think is the appropriate next action?" 58% said the judge should place the jail in federal receivership with Hinds County covering the tab, while 37% said Hinds County should keep control but with oversight. 5% weren't sure.
