For the December 2020 edition of Jackson Power Poll, we asked our Power Poll participants about their plans for the holidays—and what they think the Mississippi Legislature's plans should be. Here's what they had to say.

Asked if they were going to make an effort to shop locally, 15.6% of our respondents said they planned more in-person shopping with local retail despite the pandemic. 25% said they plan less in-store shopping altogether, and 37.5% said they plan less, but they're looking for online options to shop with local retailers.

Asked about their plans for Christmas, 62.5% said they had no plans for travel during the holiday, while 25% said they planned local travel only to see some of their extended family. 9.4% said that their family gathering would involve some interstate travel among extended family members.

72% of respondents said they plan to stay home for New Year's Eve, with 12.5% planning to attend a virtual celebration and about 9% attending a physical gathering. 6.3% said they would celebrate in a bar or restaurant.

Asked whether the Legislature should start on January 5th, given the infection rate of COVID-19 in the state, 65.6% said that legislators should delay opening the session, while 21.9% said they should start on time. 12.5% had no opinion.
